A devastating earthquake measuring 7.0 on the Richter scale has struck Haiti causing an unfolding humanitarian crisis. Children have been killed and injured – many are in desperate need of clean water, shelter and medical help. Early reports indicate a large number of casualties and a widespread damage.

“£20  will buy 3 tarpaulins, or plastic sheets to provide basic shelter to protect families. This will last a year, if they are lucky.”

 

“£40, yeah I could buy a new X Box game….I’ll complete it in 2 days though.”

 

“£40 will buy 24 plastic buckets to help families carry clean water. A bucket will last a year….if we are careful.” 

 

“£50,  My friend has got new trainers Mam, I want a pair they’re ONLY £50….. mind you they’ll be scruffy by this time next week.”

 

“£50 will buy 21 mosquito kits to protect children from malaria. Their lives WILL be saved.”

 

“£500, Right I want a new flat screen  tv for my room so I can watch X Factor……..and I want it NOW!”

 

“£500 will buy 20 student kits, notebooks, plastic water bottles, rucksacks and stationery. We need them but don’t have the money.”
